When I first started blogging, I wanted to be able to write things that would help others. I found that in order to reach readers, blogging can take quite a bit of time. So, I realized that learning how to make money blogging would allow me to continue to connect with people and provide valuable content and information while being compensated for the time I spend.
Whether you already have a blog and want to learn how to make money. Or you are thinking about starting one and want to learn how to make money from a blog. There are a handful of tips that I have learned over the years that can help you to start make money blogging almost immediately!
(In order to keep this focused on how to make money blogging, I am not going to cover in detail topics like how to actually start a blog, how to grow blog traffic or other areas focusing on making your blog.)
So, let’s jump right into How to Make Money Blogging!
You might feel overwhelmed as you are trying to figure out how to earn money with a blog. There is a lot of information on this topic and sometimes it can become super confusing. My hope is to be able to break down the main streams of revenue clearly and concisely so that you can get started making money blogging right away!
Ad revenue is a pretty simple way to make money with a blog. There are two main ways to run ads on a blog. The first is through an ad network (for example: Adsense, Gourmet Ads or Mediavine). The second is to partner with a specific company and/or product and they pay a price for you to put an ad on your site.
The amount you make on ad revenue is directly proportionate to the amount of traffic (pageviews, visitors) that you get each day. The amount that you get for that traffic can vary pretty drastically depending on your ad network. Different ad networks have different requirements to join. For a really good breakdown on ad networks and which might be the best fit for your blog, I recommend Make Money Blogging at ANY Level. This eBook helped me more than TRIPLE my ad revenue alone in the first month.
For newer blogs, I recommend Gourmet Ads.
Sponsored posts are another good way to make money blogging. Sponsored posts can be an entire blog post or they can be updates/posts on social media or a combination of both a blog post and posts on social media. The rate that you get for sponsored posts will vary greatly depending on the size and interaction of your specific audience as well as the company that you are partnering with.
In order to find sponsored post opportunities, you can directly reach out to companies. You can also join sponsored post sites like MassiveSway where they act as essentially a job board posting site and you can apply to the opportunities they have listed.
Your own products are a third way to make money blogging. Your own product can be something as simple as a checklist or something as complex as an entire video course. Some of the most common products are eBooks. But really the sky is the limit for ideas on what products might fit your readers needs the best.
Another cool thing about products is that you can put them in more places than just your blog. So, if you have an eBook you can also list it on Amazon. Or if you have a course you can also list it on Udemy. The cool thing about this is that you create one product and you are getting to put it in multiple places to get the most eyes possible on it!
Affiliate sales are another way to get revenue if you are looking to figure out how to make money blogging. Affiliate sales are basically when you recommend a product and include a link to that product with your unique tracking link. If your readers click your link and purchase the product, you get a percentage of the sale.
There are SO many different affiliate opportunities available. I recommend ONLY promoting items that YOU use and like. The most common (and easiest) affiliate program to use is Amazon Affiliates. Basically you can link ANYTHING on Amazon and make a percentage of the sale.
In addition to Amazon affiliates, many other companies and even bloggers offer affiliate programs on their products. So, if you have certain resources or products that you really love, check and see if they offer an affiliate program!
