Mottled Silkies

We have a quad of mottled silkies (two roosters & two hens).  We will be adding some additional hens as we grow out chicks and make decisions on which to add to our breeding pen.  We regularly have mottled silkies for sale.

Mottled silkies are a really neat color.  They are black with blocks of white.

Mottled silkies are very much still a project color.  All of the chicks that we hatch are silkie feathered, but we are still working on weeding out flaws so that all chicks will meet silkie breed standards.  Due to this, many of the mottled silkie chicks will have 4 toes on one or both feet.  Additionally, the mottling gene (that allows the white to show through in their color) causes light skin.  So, due to this, many of the mottled silkie chicks have light skin or at least some pigment holes.

It is our hope that with time and selective breeding we can eliminate (or mostly eliminate) these flaws.  None of these flaws affect the chicks health, they just don't meet the breed standard.

We do regularly have mottled silkie chicks for sale.   Availability does depend on how the girls are laying, time of year and other orders.  For information on availability shoot us an email.  Or you can place an order at our store.
